This activity focuses on the timely identification, appropriate initial management, optimal referral of patients with suspected mitochondrial disease and an emphasis towards confirmed genetic diagnosis, where possible. It will also aim to improve capacity for general practitioners (GPs) to support newly diagnosed patients and their carers.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify symptoms and red flags that characterise mitochondrial disease.
- Refer patients to facilitate timely diagnosis and optimal management pathways.
- Describe the GP’s role in the ongoing management of adults with mitochondrial disease.
- Design appropriate multidisciplinary and holistic care plans for patients diagnosed with mitochondrial disease.
